The Peel Adult Learning Centre (PALC) is the recipient of an Ontario Trillium Foundation Grow Grant which will increase PALC’s proven ability to help Peel residents find sustainable employment.  The Grow Grant helps chosen applicants enhance an already existing program. The adult school’s STEPUP Customer Service Readiness will be strengthened: new programming will be added, hours will be lengthened, and an Employment Service specialist will be added to the staff to assist in participants’ job search, employment, and job retention.

Local labour market research has shown that Customer Service positions are in demand in Peel. COVID has created a demand for more customer service positions as many businesses have pivoted from brick and mortar retail to ecommerce. The need to respond to customer inquiries and develop customer relationships also has increased. Many businesses are offering employees opportunities to work from both their homes and offices.  There are a variety of positions available that Customer Service participants could access and COVID has increased the demand in the marketplace for employees to have computer skills so they can work on-line if necessary. The Peel Adult Learning Centre is excited to be offering this innovative skills training opportunity to the residents of Peel.

The first cohort of the enhanced STEPUP Customer Service Readiness program will begin November 2020.
